DEMONSTRATION OF A TELEMEDICINE APPLICATION WHICH HELPS PEOPLE TO DIAGNOSE A MEDICAL PROBLEM AND THEN TAKE APPROPRIATE HEALTH CARE

Institute of Medicine (IOM) [1] defines telemedicine as the use of electronic information and communications technologies to provide and support health care when distance separates the participants. There are basically 6 main categories of telemedicine applications. They are clinical evaluations, delivery of primary care, delivery of specialty care, consultations, chronic disease management and Remote Information and Decision Analysis systems (RIDA systems). Most of the current telemedicine activity is focused on delivery of specialty care [1]. It is also characterized by narrow domains - like teleradiology, telepatholgy or teledermatology, restricted solutions - referral and consultations bewteen referring doctor and the specialist, use of high cost videoconferencing and digital manipulation equipment [1]. Main objectives underlying the system development seem to be research and development although resolving the health care access disparities is often quoted. Currently most telemedicine development activity occur in USA, UK, Australia, Norway and Canada.
